Lesson Objective: SWBAT show and explain that the distance between two integers on the number line is the absolute value of their difference, and apply this principle in real-world contexts. SWBAT complete an Exit Ticket related to lesson seeking a 3 or higher on assessment.

- Do Now: SWBAT Minute Math 7 to demonstrate learning of various concepts.
- Whole class: TW model subtraction of rational numbers as adding the additive inverse, p – q = p + (-q) values for student understanding. TW also model forming Conjectures that the distance of two numbers is the AV of their distances.
- Collaborative group: Partner practice is differentiated by levels (Bachelors, Masters) Students write expressions and determine various distances on a number line. Partners will also interpret various word problems and determine their distances.
- Independent practice: Independent practice is differentiated by levels (Bachelors, Masters, Ph.D.) Students write and determine expression related number lines and word problems.
