- Do Now: SWBAT work on Minute Math to demonstrate learning within various mathematical concepts.
- Whole class: TW review classroom protocols. TW: continue to model problems sets to help students understand that any addition expression can be represented in the generalized expression p+ q where p is the initial value and q is the distance from p. Students understand that the sum will be larger than the initial value if adding a positive value and smaller than the initial value if adding a negative value. Students understand that a number and its opposite are called additive inverses and their sum is always zero.
- Collaborative group: Partner practice is differentiated by levels (Bachelors, Masters) Students find the solution by using diagrams and writing expressions to represent the situation.
- Independent work: Independent practice is differentiated by levels (Bachelors, Masters, PhD) Students find the solution by using diagrams and writing expressions to represent the situation. SWBAT complete Pre-Unit Diagnostic Assessment for Rational Numbers. Any work that is incomplete.
